This one-day specialist workshop will include an introduction to Jay Wright’s drawing and image making practice, as well as printing, book-binding and publishing techniques by Hato Press. (20£)

Get a more in depth understanding of her work and use this as inspiration to put together your own narrative. Starting with a series of warm up drawing games and group activities, you will then focus on developing and completing your own narrative based on a selection of starting points. (20£)

A participatory collage workshop with renowned Japanese author and graphic designer Katsumi Komagata. Cut your own shape out from a selection of coloured paper, exchange this with another person and have fun working out how to connect the two.

The award-winning Japanese artist is a graphic designer and children’s book illustrator. In 1990, he publishes his first books for children that give rise to a series called Little Eyes: small books containing visual games that accompany children from their birth to stimulate their outlook and imagination. Komagata is interested in unusual ways of binding books and reading them which led him to collaboration with Les Trois Ourses in creating a series of tactile books for blind children.

Jan Bajtlik is a graphic designer, typographer and illustrator who has been creating children’s books as well as graphic identities and posters. He is the author of an activity book for children Alphadoodler (Typogryzmol – in Polish), which was awarded special mention Bologna Ragazzi Award 2015, about typography and creative scribbling. He illustrates among others for Time Magazine and The New York Times and has received numerous awards in national and international graphic competitions, including a silver medal at the 10th International Poster Triennial in Toyama.

Richard McGuire is an illustrator, graphic designer, comic book artist, animator, children’s book author, musician and toy designer. His illustrations have been published in the New York Times, The New Yorker, Le Monde, and other publications. His short story Here, now published as full-length graphic novel is the story of a corner of a room and of the events that have occurred in that space over the course of hundreds of thousands of years. Lucas Zanotto will introduce his digital studio label, Yatatoy. Started in 2012 with the mission to create high quality simple apps for children, Yatatoy has produced a trio of distinctive digital toys with endless appeal: Drawnimal, Miximal and Loopimal. (3£)

The French children’s book illustrator and author Joelle Jolivet for an in conversation with Nobrow’s Sam Arthur as they discuss her working process. She has published a dozen children’s books including The Colossal Book of Costumes: Dressing Up Around the World and Zoo-ology and has been the recipient of numerous awards. (3£)

French, London-based, graphic artist Jean Jullien, ELCAF 2016’s artist in residence, is best known for his witty illustrations. His practice ranges from Illustration to photography, video, costumes, installations, books, posters and clothing to create a coherent yet eclectic body of work. During his talk, he’ll be introducing his recent forays into children’s books and comics including This Is Not A Book and Holidays amongst others. (7£)
