Operation Bachelet
How many different kinds of carrots are there in the known World? In how many ways can you cook them? What does the White Rabbit’s wife do all day long? How long does it take for a snail to go to war? What happens if an elephant believes to be a cat? Why ostriches aren’t fables main characters?
Gilles Bachelet tries to answer to these and to many other questions putting together absurd lists and creating stories told by unexpected points of view, playing with the contrast between the accurate drawings and the absurdity of the situations he sets up. Bachelet is one of the great masters of contemporary humour.
Operation Bachelet is meant to be a dive without life jacket (but with carrot-like fins) in the world of the great French illustrator. A double-face project: the original artwork of the author’s last books will be shown at Galleria ABC, giving the audience the chance to lose itself in the stories, following the ironic trace present in all his production.
If you want instead to take a sneak peek inside Gilles Bachelet’s head and discover the crazy backstage of his creative process, the exhibition at Hamelin headquarters will recreate the method Bachelet adopts to look at the world and portray it through his cataloguing, stack of objects, selfportraits, literary and artistic references that crowd his universe of stories and all the characters he creates. Through a lot of unpublished material, especially the documentation work and the drawings in his personal carnets, showed to the audience for the first time, this exhibition wants to pay a tribute to Bachelet’s artistic universe.
