Transbook Masterclass
CREATING PRINT AND DIGITAL WORKS: LIMITATIONS AND CHALLENGES
An international masterclass organized by the Montreuil Children’s Book Fair as part of Transbook in collaboration with the Fonderie de l’Image Campus
Digital medias provide new contents, at the crossroad of well established cultural industries (book, cinema, TV, video games…), which are marked with unique features: interactivity, enhancement, hybridization of creation and disruption of linear reading. It opens a whole new scope of possibilities in terms of creative process, graphic and narrative experiments. Additionnally, it questions the constraints which are currently imposed by the devices and the distribution and diffusion platforms. What are the keys to take full advantage of the narrative potential of the physical and digital forms? What are the limitations encountered by creators and publishers? What role does the market play on contents?
Open to artists and book or transmedia professionals, this masterclass will delve into the issues engendered by this mutating offer, in terms of creation and diffusion of contents, throughout a schedule of keynotes and concrete examples.

Étienne MineurDesigner coming from the video game industry, Etienne Mineur co-founded the Volumiques editions in 2009 and became the creative director. The Volumiques editions is a studio design developing new forms of books, games and toys. The studio questions the relationship that links the object, often made with paper, and digital, to create new concepts by combining different media. Last publication

Julie Stephen ChhengJulie Chheng Stephen graduated from the School of Decorative Arts in Paris. Screen printer and illustrator, she creates fun interactive books that can be turned, unfolded, handled. Her work is inspired by the narrative potential of the evolution of the book and her research crosses concrete things and digital, seeking to explore new ways of telling stories. Last publication

AjubelIllustrator and designer from Cuba, Alberto Morales Ajubel created his design studio in Valencia (Spain). In 2009, he received the Bologna Ragazzi Award for his adaptation of Robinson Crusoe (Plume de Carotte). His version of The Cat That Walk by Himself was included in the selection of the top 5 published books with iBooks Author in 2012. Today, Ajubel continues its work between real and digital with his teams and through conferences and workshops. Last publication

Ben NewmanBen Newman is an illustrator whose work is particularly recognizable, thanks to its dynamic shapes, its bright colours and its cheerful characters. He has collaborated, among others, with the Tate, the New York Times, Fantagraphics and Selfridges. He regularly works on children’s collection of Nobrow and Flying Eye Books as an art director.
